003The Sad State of My Favorite Sport
posted by Jiggy on June 20th, 2006
As many who read this know I am a huge hockey fan. My loyalties stay with the Detroit Red Wings and it will always be with them through thick and thin. This post is for me to talk about the end of the Stanley Cup finals, which ended last night.
The end of the finals can only be classified as sad. Not only because the Wings weren’t in them but because they were won by a team from Carolina. No offense to the Hurricanes, they were the best team and proved with their win. I take exception to WHERE the team is from. Hockey is a cold weather sport. Not something that should be dominated by a team from the warm coasts of Carolina. Now the Stanley Cup champions could belong in any cold weather city. Chicago, New York, Boston, Denver(as little as possible), Detroit(more often then most if I have my way) or any where in Canada. We have now had three years of the Cup residing south of the mason dixon line. Tampa Bay two years ago then the strike year and now in Carolina. For the sake of hockey I hope I never live to see the day that Atlanta wins the Stanley Cup. Nothing against my friends in Atlanta, but they can’t have the Cup. Any other sport but not hockey.
Maybe the Cup will return to where it belongs next year, or face the death of a great sport. Imagine next years Cup finals could feature Anaheim vs. Carolina.
God save hockey.
