011“Pirates 2″ 3 and 1/4 stars

In the most awaited movie of the year we get the return of our favorite Pirates. All of the favorite characters make their return to the silver screen. I am going to try and review this without giving away any of the major story points. With that said lets get into it.

This movie has it all. Much like the first one it has a great sense of humor about itself. The story is strong and the cinematography is breathtaking. The story centers around a bargain made years before between Captain Jack and Davey Jones, the famed captain of the flying dutchmen. Now, it is time for Jack to pay up. Well, Jack isn’t ready to do that yet and in his typical fashion tries to find a way to weasel out of his promise to Jones. While at the same time Will and Elizabeth have been arrested. The only way they will get there freedom is to find Jack and bring back his compass to the East India company. Many characters return along with some new ones we are sure to see again.

Now we turn to the only major flaw with this movie. It has no ending. This movie and the third one(to be released in May of 2007) are one movie. They are following the plan set forth by the Matrix movies. They don’t end but they give you a big cliff hanger to make sure you go to see the third one next year.

All and all this is a very good movie. It won’t end the way you want it to but it sets up the third installment to be one of the best movies next year too.
