Don’t read the reviews from the so called experts. This was a really good film. The writing was done very well and De Palma puts a smooth sleek feel on an otherwise dark story. This is your typical murder mystery in that you don’t get all the information till the very end of the movie. It was written by James Ellroy the same man who wrote L.A. Confidential. This story has very much the same feel. When trying to decide what the weakness of this film it I keep ending up at the acting. Not to say that the acting is bad it seems to feel a little weaker than the rest of this film. The one exception to that is Josh Hartnett. He brought a deep realism to this character. I believed him as Bucky.
Now, if you have a problem with graphic violence or pictures of dismembered corpses then you might want to avoid this film. If that isn’t a big issue for you, I really recommend this movie be on your to see list.
